Step 6: Configuring virtual machines

Configure storage policies, NIC configurations, and migration options for the virtual machines to be migrated.

Configuration items are grouped by target cluster. To apply the same configurations to multiple virtual machines in the same cluster, select the virtual machines and click Bulk configure to complete the settings in batch.

To adjust the configuration of a single virtual machine, click > on the right of the virtual machine row to reveal the configuration panel for the virtual machine from the right side of the page. You can view and modify as needed its storage policy, NIC settings, and migration options on this panel. The DETAILS column of the virtual machine row summarizes the current configuration in real time, such as 2 replicas · Thin provisioning | 3 virtual NICs · DHCP.

When a migration plan includes multiple target clusters, you can switch between cluster groups by using the dot indicator and left and right arrows at the bottom of the page.

Storage policy

Select a storage policy for the virtual volumes after virtual machine migration.

• Redundancy policy:

  • Replication: You can select either 2 replicas or 3 replicas.

  • Erasure coding: The system will provide a recommended configuration based on the number of nodes in the target cluster. You can also manually select a configuration.

    Information: If the target is an active-active cluster, only 3 replicas are supported.

• Provisioning: You can select either Thin provisioning or Thick provisioning.

• Data encryption: If the target cluster is running ACOS not earlier than 6.2.0 with data encryption enabled, you can choose whether to enable encryption for virtual volumes. If the target cluster is running ACOS not earlier than 6.3.0, you need to further select an encryption algorithm. For details, refer to Managing data-at-rest encryption in ACOS Administration Guide.

(Optional) Virtual NICs

• Configure a static IP manually (displayed only when the target has an Arcfra VMTools image stored): Once checked, you can manually configure the IP address, CIDR subnet mask, and gateway for NICs.

  If VMware Tools is installed on the source virtual machine and the virtual machine is started, when this option is checked, the source NIC configuration is automatically applied and can be manually modified.

  Note:

  • Due to differences in NIC naming rules between VMware ESXi and AVE, NIC names may change after migration. It is recommended that you check this option to ensure that network configurations take effect.
  • After this option is checked, the virtual machine will start automatically and install Arcfra VMTools when migration is complete. After the installation is complete, the ISO image will be automatically ejected.
  • If the static IP address of the target virtual machine does not take effect, check whether the content of the virtual NIC configuration file is correct.
  • If VMware Tools is installed on the source virtual machine, VMware Tools will be automatically uninstalled from the target virtual machine after migration is complete. For supported virtual machine operating system versions, refer to Arcfra Migration Tool 2.0.1 Compatibility Matrix.

• Keep MAC: Once checked, the virtual NICs of the target virtual machine will keep the MAC addresses of the source virtual machine.

  Note:

  If the source and target virtual machines are in the same LAN, avoid starting both virtual machines simultaneously after migration is complete. Otherwise, network access failures may occur.

Migration options

• Verify data consistency: Once checked, data consistency verification is performed after data transfer is complete. During verification, the source virtual machine will be shut down for a longer time. The verification duration is proportional to the amount of migrated data.
• Start VM after migration: Once checked, the virtual machine will start automatically after migration is complete.
• Limit transfer rate: When this option is checked and has a rate limit set in MiB/s, the data transfer rate will be limited to the configured value.

Resource estimates are persistently displayed at the bottom of the page:

• Storage space: Displays the estimated required space under the selected storage policy, the available space of the target cluster, and the estimated usage by the current migration task.
• Memory allocation: Displays the estimated memory requirement of all virtual machines to be migrated, the available memory of the target cluster, and the estimated usage by the current migration task. If the estimated requirement exceeds the available value, the value is shown in orange.

After completing the configuration, click the arrow icon (>) on the right side of the top wizard bar to proceed to Step 7: Configuring the schedule.
