Migrating virtual machines

After completing the pre-migration checks, you can create migration plans and perform migration through the controller console.

All migration operations are organized by migration plan. Multiple virtual machines can be included in a single migration plan, where the system automatically schedules workers to execute migration tasks based on the configured network mappings, virtual machine configurations, and time policies. The overall process is as follows:

  1. Adding sites: Add connection information for the source and target clusters on the SITE MANAGEMENT page.
  2. Creating migration plans: Configure migration parameters through a 7-step wizard, including selecting virtual machines, configuring the target cluster, configuring network mappings, configuring virtual machine settings, and configuring time policies.
  3. Full migration: After the plan is created, the controller schedules workers to start full data transfer based on the configured trigger time.
  4. (Optional) Incremental synchronization: After full migration is complete, if the source virtual machines are still running, perform incremental sync to reduce the amount of data transferred during cutover.
  5. Cutover: Shut down the source virtual machines, perform final data synchronization, and complete migration.
  6. Confirming the target: Confirm whether the migrated virtual machines run properly in the target cluster.

Prerequisite

  • The controller has been deployed and initialized.
  • At least one worker has been deployed and is displayed as Online in the controller.

Precaution

Do not edit virtual machines to be migrated, such as adding or deleting disks or deleting virtual machine snapshots, from the time you create the migration plan until migration is complete. Otherwise, migration will fail.
