The Windows operating systems supported by AVE virtual machines can be categorized into the following two installation scenarios, depending on the selected type of system disk bus during installation, whether Arcfra VMTools is supported, and whether the driver needs to be loaded manually after the operating system is installed:
| Scenario | System disk bus (OS installation) | Arcfra VMTools support | Manual driver loading | Typical versions |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Scenario 1 | VIRTIO/SCSI/IDE | Supported | No | Windows Server 2008 R2, Windows Server 2012 R2 |
| Scenario 2 | IDE | No | Yes (NIC and memory drivers) | Windows Server 2003 |
Information:
Except for Windows Server 2003, it is recommended to use the VIRTIO bus when installing the Windows operating system for the virtual machine, unless otherwise specified by the customer.
To facilitate understanding, a typical operating system version is selected for each of the above two scenarios, with a detailed description of the installation process and steps provided. Before installation, refer to AVE Compatibility Guide released with the software version as well as the table below to confirm the installation scenarios, the required version of Arcfra VMTools, and the required version of virtio-win driver for the Windows operating system to be installed.
