Checking if destination virtual machines can operate properly

After the data migration is complete, you need to check if the destination virtual machines can operate properly.

  • If the destination virtual machines can operate properly, click Yes. Complete the migration task. to finish the migration task.

  • If the destination virtual machines cannot operate properly, first check if its operating system version and firmware type are listed in Arcfra Migration Tool Compatibility Guide:

    • Not in the compatibility guide

If the operating system version and firmware type of the destination virtual machines are not listed in the compatibility guide, the reason for its anomaly might be a failed VirtIO driver injection. To troubleshoot this issue, follow these steps:

      1. Click No. Choose the further action. > Create new VM with no driver injected.

Arcfra Migration Tool will stop injecting VirtIO drivers and create new virtual machines on the destination site with names containing the retry field. This virtual machines' disks will use the IDE bus.

      2. After the virtual machines with the names containing the retry field are created, start the virtual machines.

        • If the virtual machines can operate properly, select Yes. Complete the migration task. Then you should manually install VirtIO drivers for the virtual machines. For detailed instructions, refer to the Installing VirtIO drivers for virtual machines migrated or imported to AVE section.
        • If the virtual machines cannot operate properly, do not click any buttons so that this task will be kept in the task queue for troubleshooting. You need to contact technical support to troubleshoot the issue.
    • In the compatibility guide

If the operating system version and firmware type of the destination virtual machines are listed in the compatibility guide, do not click any buttons so that this task will be kept in the task queue for troubleshooting. You need to contact technical support to troubleshoot the issue.

After the migration task is complete, you can view the task details on the History page, such as Time consumed for data transfer, Data space, and Total amount of data transferred.

Note:

Total amount of data transferred refers to the actual amount of data migrated by Arcfra Migration Tool. If Total amount of data transferred is less than Data space, the reason might be that Arcfra Migration Tool only migrates the valid data of the disks on source virtual machines. The scenarios where only valid data is migrated are as follows:

  • The virtualization platform of the source site is VMware ESXi 6.x/7.x/8.x which uses VMFS, vSAN, or VVol for data storage, and the virtual disks on the virtual machines adopt a Thin Provision or Thick Provision Lazy Zeroed provisioning policy.
  • The virtualization platform of the source site is VMware ESXi 5.x which uses VMFS for data storage, and the virtual disks of the virtual machines adopt a Thin Provision or Thick Provision Lazy Zeroed provisioning policy.
