You can conveniently shut down or reboot a host or an SCVM in an ACOS cluster on AOC via the host power management feature.
In a cluster, you can only shut down or reboot one host at a time.
In the following scenarios, shutting down or rebooting the host on AOC can improve operation and maintenance efficiency:
When modifying configurations, such as modifying the port SR-IOV, host IOMMU and other system configurations, you need to place the host in maintenance mode and reboot the host for the configuration to take effect.
When replacing hardware, such as replacing memory, NIC, CPU, storage controller, etc., you need to place the host in maintenance mode and then shut down the host and perform offline maintenance operations.
In the event of an emergency shutdown or host reboot, you can force shutdown or reboot the host when it is not in maintenance mode.
Risk warning
If the host is not configured to enter maintenance mode or if you forcibly shut down or reboot the host while it is entering maintenance mode, the virtual machines on the host will be forcibly shut down. If the virtual machine has HA enabled, it will first trigger HA. If the virtual machine has enabled Autostart with host, it will automatically start when the host is powered on.
Prerequisites
The AOC virtual machine is not running on the current host.
The current host is in the Healthy, Initializing or Abnormal state.
After the current host is shut down, the remaining number of hosts in the cluster meets the requirements for electing the master node.
The cluster is not using the management IP address of the current host to associate with AOC.
The host is currently in maintenance mode.
If the host is not in maintenance mode and is forced to shut down or reboot, ensure that the following conditions are met:
Precaution
If the host is not configured to enter maintenance mode or if you forcibly shut down or reboot the host while it is entering maintenance mode, the virtual machines on the host will be forcibly shut down. If the virtual machine has HA enabled, it will first trigger HA. If the virtual machine has enabled Autostart with host, it will automatically start when the host is powered on.
Procedure
Log in to AOC, select the target host in the host list of the cluster, click the ellipsis (...) on the right, and then select Shutdown or Reboot.
Enter the reason in the opened dialog box, and click Shutdown or Reboot.
After submitting the task, you can check the task progress and whether the task is successfully completed in the task center.
Shutting down or rebooting the SCVM in AOC will not affect the power state of the ESXi host.
Prerequisites
The current SCVM is in the Healthy, Initializing or Abnormal state.
After the current SCVM is shut down, the remaining number of SCVMs in the cluster meet the requirements for electing the master node.
The cluster is not using the management IP address of the current SCVM to associate with AOC.
The SCVM is in maintenance mode.
If the SCVM is not in maintenance mode and is forced to shut down or reboot, ensure that the following conditions are met:
Procedure
Log in to AOC, select the target SCVM in the host list of the cluster, click the ellipsis (...) on the right, and then select Shutdown SCVM or Reboot SCVM.
Enter the reason in the opened dialog box, and click Shutdown SCVM or Reboot SCVM.
After submitting the task, you can check the task progress and whether the task is successfully completed in the task center.
If you need to shut down or reboot the ESXi host, after shutting down the SCVM, follow the prompts in the Shutdown SCVM dialog box and the VMware technical documentation to shut down or reboot the ESXi host on the VMware page.
