Setting basic information

  1. Enter the name and description of the backup plan.

  2. Select the backup service and backup repository used by the backup plan, and choose whether to enable file-system consistent and compression.

    ParameterDescription
Backup serviceSelect the backup service. It is recommended to select a backup service located in the same data center as the virtual machines to be backed up.
Backup repositorySelect the backup repository. Only backup repositories associated with the backup service can be selected.
File-system consistentEnabled by default. For virtual machines with VMTools installed and in running state, file-system consistent backup is achieved by writing memory data of the virtual machine file system to disk. Other virtual machines will perform crash-consistent backups and snapshots will not include memory data. When disabled, all virtual machines will perform crash-consistent backups, and related snapshots will not include memory data of the virtual machine file system.
CompressionChoose whether to enable backup data compression, which is enabled by default. After the virtual volume data of the virtual machine is transferred to the backup repository, it will be compressed first and then stored as a backup file.
  3. Select one or more virtual machines to include in the backup plan. You can filter virtual machines by name, cluster name, label name, and label value.

    Note:

The following virtual machines are not supported for backup:

    • Virtual machines mounted with shared virtual volumes.
    • Virtual machines running system services, such as ANS (Arcfra Network Service) Controller virtual machines, AOC virtual machines, backup service virtual machines, replication service virtual machines, observability virtual machines, etc.
    • Node virtual machines of an AKE (Arcfra Kubernetes Engine) workload cluster.
    • Virtual machines in Updating or Unknown state.
    • Virtual machines in a cluster with a trial license that has expired.
    • Replica virtual machines created by replicating virtual machines using the replication service.
