VPC peering provides L3 communication between VPCs without relying on an edge gateway cluster, using distributed routers on the nodes of clusters associated with the VPCs to forward data.
As shown in the following figure, virtual machines in two VPCs can communicate directly using IP addresses. Since VPC peering does not perform IP translation, the CIDRs of VPC subnets in the two interconnected VPCs must not overlap.
