Topology awareness

During actual deployment, failures may not only occur at the node level, but equipment like Top of Rack (ToR) switches, cabinets, and UPS power supplies also carry risks of abnormalities. To enhance the reliability and availability of the system, the data allocation mechanism of ABS is designed with topology awareness. When adding nodes to the cluster, administrators can specify the physical topology information of nodes, such as rack, brick, and node. When ABS allocates data shards, it distributes different shards belonging to the same logical data across different physical topology branches. This reduces the impact on the system from the failure of a single device, such as a node, network device, or power module.

To fully leverage the reliability enhancements brought by topology awareness, you should prioritize selecting nodes from different topology branches when configuring a storage pool. This can further improve the system's fault tolerance, ensuring higher stability and data security.
