Failure of the physical disk hosting the last system partition or metadata partition on a host

Description

The faulty physical disk contains the last system partition or metadata partition on the host.

Alert message

• Host { .labels.hostname }： Disk { .labels._serial_number }({ .labels._device }) failure, and the last system or meta partition of the host exists on the physical disk.

• SCVM { .labels.hostname }： Disk { .labels._serial_number }({ .labels._device }) failure, and the last system or meta partition of the SCVM exists on the physical disk.

Impact

Because the physical disk contains the last system partition or metadata partition on the host, the node where the faulty disk resides may not function normally.

Cause

Refer to the accompanying physical disk failure type alert to analyze the cause.

Solution

1. In AOC, put the host where the faulty disk resides into maintenance mode.

2. Insert and mount a new SSD on the host, and configure it to include a metadata partition:

   • In non-tiered storage mode, set the purpose of the new SSD to Data disk with metadata partition.

   • In tiered storage mode, set the purpose of the new SSD to Cache disk with metadata partition, or Data disk with metadata partition (single-SSD tiered storage mode).

3. After the new physical disk is successfully mounted, the alert will be automatically cleared.

4. Unmount the faulty physical disk, replace it with a new SSD, mount the new SSD, and configure it to include a metadata partition.

5. After all physical disk alerts on the host are cleared, exit the host from maintenance mode.
