Virtual machines rebuilding failure

Description

When a host failure triggers HA, the virtual machines cannot be rebuilt on other hosts if the remaining hosts in the cluster have insufficient memory, triggering the alert.

Alert message

The virtual machines on the host { .labels.hostname } with high availability enabled cannot be rebuilt on other hosts in the cluster due to their insufficient memories.

Impact

If the host becomes unavailable, some virtual machines with HA enabled will not be able to be successfully rebuilt on other hosts.

Cause

The available memory on other available hosts in the cluster is insufficient to meet the resource requirements for rebuilding the virtual machines with HA enabled on this host.

Solution

  • Add available memory resources to the hosts in the cluster.

  • Free up allocated memory from some virtual machines to increase the available memory capacity.
