Prerequisite

The virtual machine must be in the Running, Shutdown, or Suspended state.

Precaution

  • The snapshot does not include CPU exclusive information for the virtual machine.
  • Information about shared volumes, GPU passthrough devices, vGPUs, SR-IOV passthrough NICs, PCI passthrough NICs, and USB devices is not included in the snapshot.
  • You can create a file-system consistent snapshot only when VMTools installed in the virtual machine is running. For installation, refer to Installing Arcfra VMTools.

Procedure

  1. In the virtual machine details panel, click Snapshot > + Create snapshot.

  2. In the Create VM snapshot dialog box, enter the snapshot name.

If you do not specify a snapshot name, the default name is virtual machine name-snapshot-sequential number.

  3. (Optional) If VMTools is already installed and running on the virtual machine, you need to choose whether to create a file-system consistent snapshot. Otherwise, skip this step.

Create a file-system consistent snapshot means temporarily freezing the virtual machine and flushing its file system cache before taking the snapshot, to ensure the file system's consistency.

When you select Create a file-system consistent snapshot, the virtual machine will be temporarily unavailable during the snapshot creation.

  4. Click Create to immediately start creating a snapshot of the virtual machine.

During the process, you can check the task progress and whether the creation is successful in the task center.

  5. Once the snapshot is created, you can view it in the virtual machine snapshots list in the cluster or in the Snapshot tab of the specific virtual machine. You can also click the ellipsis (...) to the right of the snapshot and select View details to check the detailed information about the snapshot.
