You can perform power operations such as start, shutdown, restart, suspend, and resume on virtual machines directly from the virtual machine details page in ACOS. Alternatively, You can also perform power operations by clicking the ellipsis (...) to the right of the virtual machine in the list.
If the virtual machine is equipped with GPU passthrough devices, vGPUs, SR-IOV passthrough NICs, PCI passthrough NICs, or USB devices, it will affect the operations of starting, shutting down, restarting, and suspending the virtual machine. For details, refer to the section on Impacts of mounting passthrough devices on other functions.
| Power operation | Precaution | Impacts after operation |
|---|---|---|
| Starting a virtual machine | - |
|
| Shutting down a virtual machine | If Autostart with host is enabled for the virtual machine, you can check Disable the autostart with host option when shutting down the virtual machine. If checked, the virtual machine will not automatically start after the host starts. | When you shut down the virtual machine operating system, any unsaved work in the virtual machine will be lost. |
| Forcibly shutting down a virtual machine |
|
The hardware is shut down and any unsaved work in the virtual machine will be lost. |
| Restarting a virtual machine | - | After you restart the virtual machine operating system, any unsaved work in the virtual machine will be lost. |
| Forcibly restarting a virtual machine | If the virtual machine has no operating system installed or the operating system does not support ACPI, you can only use the forced restart method. If you choose to restart the virtual machine instead, the task will fail. | The hardware is shut down and the virtual machine is restarted, and any unsaved work in the virtual machine will be lost. |
| Suspending a virtual machine | - |
|
| Resuming a virtual machine | - | The virtual machine resumes its activity from the Suspended state, with no change to the host where it resides. |
