At the same redundancy level, compared to the equivalent replication policy, erasure coding policy offers advantages in space usage. For example, compared to the 3-replica policy, using an erasure coding strategy of 8 + 2 can increase space usage from 33% to 80% while still tolerating the failure of two nodes or physical disks. ABS ensures that the performance of EC volumes and replicated volumes remains consistent in most daily usage scenarios through caching acceleration and merging strategies. This approach balances the need for both space efficiency and performance.
