A Key Management Service (KMS) can be either an external key management service or a native key management service.
- An external key management service consists of one or more key management servers sharing data with each other. Any client registered on a node of the key management service can access any node in the service.
- A native key management service is an internal key management service provided by the cluster. It functions the same as an external key management service.
