FAQ

Q: I deployed an Arcfra Cloud Operating System (ACOS) cluster with VMware ESXi 7.0 U2. When trying to add a disk to a virtual machine via vCenter Server, if the parameter Location on the page shows Store with the virtual machine and the parameter Disk Provisioning only allows Thin Provision, it is not possible to create a thick-provisioned disk for the virtual machine, as shown in the following image. How can I add a thick-provisioned disk to the virtual machine?

A: You need to to install Arcfra VAAI-NAS plugin of version 2.1-4 first and ensure that it is working properly. Then, perform these steps in vCenter Server:

  1. Log in to vCenter Server using VMware vSphere Web Client. Right-click on the virtual machine and click Edit Settings.

  2. On the Edit Settings page, select Virtual Hardware > New Hard disk. Click the Location option and manually choose the destination NFS Datastore.

  3. Check if the Disk Provisioning parameter options include Thick Provision Lazy Zeroed and Thick Provision Eager Zeroed.

    • If these options are available, set the parameter to Thick Provision Eager Zeroed as shown in the image below. Click OK to save the settings and add a thick-provisioned disk to the virtual machine.

    • If these options are not available, it means that thick-provisioned disks are not supported for the virtual machine. In this case, Contact technical support directly.

Q: How do I enable NAS native snapshots on a virtual machine in an ACOS cluster using VMware ESXi 7.0 U2 or later versions or VMware ESXi 8.0 U1a or later versions?

A: To enable NAS native snapshots, you need to install Arcfra VAAI-NAS plugin of version 2.1-4. Once installed, you can set up and enable NAS native snapshots in the virtual machine, allowing you to quickly create virtual machine snapshots within the ACOS cluster. For detailed configuration steps, refer to VMware documentation.
