Before deployment, consider the following aspects to determine the location and number of replication services to be deployed.
Confirming the replication plan type
Intra-site replication
When selecting the intra-site replication policy:
In addition, if there are multiple geographically distributed data centers within the site, and the source cluster and target cluster are located in different data centers, due to potential network instability across different data centers, it is recommended to deploy replication services for different data centers separately to ensure the stability and transmission efficiency of replication and recovery.
Cross-site replication
When selecting the cross-site replication policy, make sure that a replication service is deployed in each site. If multiple clusters within a site need to replicate data with a cluster at another site, you need to confirm whether the storage networks of these clusters are interconnected. If not, deploy a replication service for each isolated cluster to ensure that data can be successfully replicated to the cluster in the other site. Otherwise, deploying one replication service within the site is sufficient.
Confirming the data size to be replicated
A single replication service can replicate a single virtual machine with up to 320 TiB of actual data, or multiple virtual machines with a combined actual data size of up to 320 TiB. If the actual data size to be replicated exceeds 320 TiB, it is recommended to deploy multiple replication services.
