Before deploying the backup service, confirm the number of backup services needed to be deployed based on the actual situation of the data center, cluster, and AOC.
Whether cross-data-center is required
Due to potential network instability issues across data centers, it is recommended to deploy backup services separately for each data center, and back up virtual machines to one or more backup repositories located in the same data center to ensure stability and transmission efficiency of backup and recovery.
Whether multiple clusters to be backed up are interconnected
If you need to back up multiple clusters, confirm whether their storage networks are interconnected, and plan the number of backup services to be deployed accordingly.
Note:
A backup service can only be deployed in one ACOS (AVE) cluster, but one ACOS (AVE) cluster can deploy multiple backup services.
Whether using multiple AOC instances for management
The backup service is deployed and associated with clusters through AOC. For clusters that are not managed by the same AOC, it is not possible to use one backup service to back up all of them. If you manage clusters through multiple AOC instances, you should deploy at least one backup service in each AOC, and separate licenses are required.
Confirm the data size to be backed up
A single backup service can back up a single virtual machine with up to 100 TiB of actual data, or multiple virtual machines with the sum of the total actual data up to 100 TiB. If the sum of the actual data size of multiple virtual machines exceeds 100 TiB, it is recommended to deploy multiple backup services to complete the operation.
