OverviewDeploymentManagementOperationReferenceGlossary

The DRS information of a single cluster includes the cluster resource load, the host resource sufficiency, the VM resource contention, DRS configuration, migration recommendations to be applied, migration recommendations already applied, and the DRS score of each virtual machines in the cluster.

You can also click a cluster on the AOC cluster page and select All > DRS from the tab bar to view relevant information.

Cluster resource load

This widget displays the cluster DRS score.

Host resource sufficiency

This widget categorizes and displays hosts based on their DRS scores.

  • Sufficient
  • Mildly insufficient
  • Severely insufficient

VM resource contention

This widget categorizes and displays virtual machines based on their DRS scores. Click a category to quickly view the virtual machines it contains, along with their DRS scores and other information.

  • No contention
  • Mildly insufficient
  • Severely insufficient

DRS configuration

This widget displays the automation level, migration threshold, and the total number of virtual machines that have special rules applied (shown only when one or more virtual machine special rules have been set for the cluster). You can also edit these DRS configurations by clicking Edit in the widget.

To view the names of the set special rules and the name of the corresponding virtual machines, click the total number of virtual machines next to VM special rule.

Migration recommendation

This tab displays the migration recommendations generated upon the latest run of DRS. Since DRS is effective at the cluster level, after migration recommendations are applied, the system will only perform intra-cluster hot migration for virtual machines to balance the cluster resource load.

  • When no virtual machines in the cluster are being migrated, you can click Generate now in the tab to manually run DRS and generate the latest migration recommendations.

  • Migration recommendations will be automatically applied by the system based on the set automation level or will be manually applied by users. You can choose to apply all recommendations or apply specific ones. It is recommended to apply all.

  • Each migration recommendation contains the following information:

    Value Description
VM The name of the virtual machine recommended for migration.
Source host The name of the host that runs the virtual machine when the migration recommendation is generated.
Destination host The name of the target host for the recommended virtual machine migration.
Automation level The automation level set for DRS, including:
    • Manual
    • Automated

If the virtual machine recommended for migration has no special rules applied, the automation level of the migration recommendation is by default the same as the DRS configurations of the cluster.

If the virtual machine recommended for migration has any special rule applied, the automation level of the migration recommendation is consistent with the applied special rule.
Migration status The application status of the migration recommendations, including:
    • Pending
    • Migrating
Priority Migration recommendations with different priorities are generated based on the migration threshold set for DRS:
    • When the migration threshold is set to Conservative: only high-priority migration recommendations will be generated.
    • When the migration threshold is set to Moderate: both high-priority and medium-priority migration recommendations will be generated.
    • When the migration threshold is set to Aggressive: high-priority, medium-priority, and low-priority migration recommendations will all be generated.
Migration reason Reasons for recommending migration, including:
    • To balance cluster CPU workload.
    • To balance cluster memory workload.
    • To enhance virtual machine data replica localization.
    • Ensure that the virtual machine complies with the requirements of the placement group policy.

      Information:

When manually applying a migration recommendation with the reason Meet VM placement group policy requirement, if the policy requires the VMs to be placed on the same host, the system will prompt whether to also apply multiple migration recommendations that are required to satisfy this placement group policy. It is recommended to apply them together.
Generation time The time when the migration recommendation is generated.

History

Applied migration recommendations are displayed in the History tab.

Each historical migration recommendation contains information similar to that of migration recommendations, except that the migration status is either Migrated or Failed. The reasons for migration failure include:

  • The migration recommendation has become invalid. Possible reasons are as follows.

    • The virtual machine no longer runs on the source host, has been deleted, or has been moved to the recycle bin.
    • The virtual machine is no longer in the Running state.
    • The target host no longer meets the migration requirements, such as host status errors, disconnection, being in maintenance mode or entering maintenance mode, or the target host no longer meets the virtual machine's memory requirements.
    • After the migration recommendation is generated, the virtual machine has USB devices, SR‑IOV passthrough NICs, PCI passthrough NICs, vGPUs, GPU passthrough devices, or encryption controllers mounted.
  • The virtual machine migration task cannot be triggered.

  • The virtual machine migration has failed.

You can click Failed and jump to the Task center to check the reason for the corresponding migration failure.

VM DRS score

Click the VM DRS score tab to display the DRS scores of running virtual machines in the cluster. The scores are calculated each time DRS runs.

Value Description
VM The name of the virtual machine.
Host The name of the host that currently runs the virtual machine.
VM resource contention The resource contention status of the virtual machine:
  • No contention
  • Mild contention
  • Severe contention
DRS score

The DRS score of the virtual machine.

Calculated based on the CPU, memory, and storage usage.
CPU score

The CPU score of the virtual machine.

Calculated based on CPU usage.
Memory score

The memory score of the virtual machine.

Calculated based on memory usage.
Storage score

The storage score of the virtual machine.

Calculated based on storage usage.
